Car rental
Car rental in Uganda, self-drive or with a driver
The fleet
Self-drive or with a driver?
Self-drive
Set your own pace and stop wherever you like. To drive yourself you'll need:
- A valid driving licence held for at least one year
- A passport or national ID
- An International Driving Permit or a Uganda-issued temporary permit, which we can help arrange
- A refundable security deposit at pickup
Cars are rented full-to-full: you collect the car with a full tank and return it the same way.
With a driver
One of our drivers takes the wheel while you watch the scenery. It's the easiest way to do a long circuit: no navigating unfamiliar roads, no guessing how long the murram stretch to the park gate will take, and more time looking out of the window.
Every car in the fleet can be hired with a driver, and the booking works the same way. Send us your dates and route, and we'll confirm the car and the price.
Which car for which trip?
City, airport and tarmac trips
Kampala, Entebbe, Jinja and the paved road west to Fort Portal and Kibale. A comfortable minivan is all you need.
Gorilla trekking in the southwest
Bwindi, Mgahinga and Lake Bunyonyi. The last stretch is steep murram that turns to mud after rain, so take a 4x4.
Game drives in the national parks
Queen Elizabeth, Murchison Falls and beyond. A pop-up roof lets everyone stand up for a clear view of the wildlife.
